Since this is the 42nd post on this blog, I'm going to write about The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
42 is a perfect answer to ridicule the idea of the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. But let's analyze it from the perspective of mind programs. The way I see it, the core structure behind the Ultimate Question is The Truth Box.
People who ask those kinds of questions simply feel the need to fill their empty Truth Box. They don't see the absurdity of what they do. They just ask questions about the nature of Life, the Universe, and Everything. They don't even reflect on what would the answer look like. Would it be one sentence? One word? Would it be a statement? An instruction? A mathematical equation? Or maybe, it would be just a number?
From the perspective of mind programs, it doesn't matter what you put into The Truth Box. It doesn't have to make any sense. You can put anything into The Truth Box and build a belief system around it. People do this all the time.
But if you're satisfied with that, you might as well accept 42 as The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Some people might think there are better answers than 42, like "everything is energy", or "everything is God". But is that really better? Does it really explain anything?
This is just using one idea with no real meaning to explain another idea with no real meaning. It doesn't get you anywhere, because one can always ask about the nature of energy or God. If you can't explain the nature of energy, God, or any other answer that you've given, then that's not much of a real explanation, is it? It's just a word in a Truth Box. But if you can give an explanation, you'll always end up with some ideas that need to be explained.
That's why I say, that if you're satisfied with putting some idea into your Truth Box, 42 is as good as any other idea.
The way I see it, if you want to understand anything, the best you can do is to make a mental model. A mental representation which in some circumstances behaves in a similar way to the actual reality (if there is such a thing as "actual reality").
It's good to accept that your understanding is just a model of reality and not to insist that you know The Truth.
Of course, you can simply enjoy your life and don't bother yourself with philosophical questions. This is how I prefer to live my life.
But if you want to understand Life, the Universe, and Everything, I suggest investigating how your mind works first, so that you don't end up chasing after some Ultimate Answers, or even Ultimate Questions.
